HONORARY DEGREE
It’s never too late! No doubt Albino Bernardini’s recently obtained University degree proves this old saying to be very true. He has managed to gain a degree at the age of 87. The Education Science Faculty of Cagliari University, Sardinia, conferred this title on him on January 27, 2005 as a highly deserved tribute to his long career as an educator. The touching ceremony was held in the University Great Hall before a large audience. Many children from diverse Sardinian schools were invited to attend. Albino was also accompanied by a few of his close relatives.
“Firstly let me please thank all Italian children because they are those who made my work possible. Consequently they helped me, in some way, to reach this coveted goal – Albino stated. His doctoral thesis “Riflessioni sulla scuola di base” (thoughts upon primary and secondary education) was then read out by his son Francesco. After the reading, the University Chancellor, Prof. Pasquale Mistretta, handed the Honorary Degree parchment over to the evidently emotion-stirred laureate robbed in his gown. Then the audience gave him a long lasting standing ovation. Indeed a very glorious unforgettable day for Albino Bernardini, the crowning achievement of his lifetime. The just reward for a life lived by siding with the children, the weak and the meek.
